Sycamore Gap - Hadrians Wall
Situated midway between Newcastle and Carlisle, the cottage provides an excellent base to explore the Roman sites and Museums in the Northumberland National Park, including Hadrians Wall which is only six miles from the historic market town of Hexham.

Northumberland is home to more Castles and Strongholds than any other area of England, many of which guard miles of rugged coastline and almost deserted beaches.

The Cathedral city of Durham, the wonderful outdoor museum at Beamish (below, right) and the Scottish Borders are just a leisurely drive away.

Kielder Water (above), the largest man made lake in Europe is a great day out for all the family. Walk, bike or ride through Kielder forest, one of Britains biggest nature reserves, visit the Birds of Prey Centre or enjoy the stunning countryside from a cruise around the lake's 27 mile shoreline.

In contrast, Gateshead and neighbouring Newcastle - joint bidders for Europe's Capital of Culture 2008 have a wealth of fabulous shops, fascinating museums and wonderful buildings both historic and modern.

The Quayside is bustling with restaurants, bars and bistros all within the shadows of the spectacular bridges of the River Tyne.
